Board of Governor Vacancies

The College of Osteopaths is seeking volunteer trustees/governors to strengthen the existing team and to reflect the successful registration of the College with the Office for Students, the Regulatory body for all Higher Education Institutions.

We are the only Osteopathic Education Institution in the UK to deliver Recognised Bachelor of Osteopathy (BOst Hons) programmes in three geographic locations – London, Stoke-on-Trent and more recently Derby.

We would like to extend our Board of Governors’ membership to strengthen the Board’s expertise and to reflect more the communities where the College operates.

The College of Osteopaths is a friendly independent educational charity that works in partnership with other providers. The College currently has two partner universities:  Staffordshire University and University of Derby. We feel strongly about widening access to the profession to under-represented groups and we are successful in supporting learners from a broad range of backgrounds. For over 60 years we have specialised in the provision of flexible pathways into the osteopathic profession. For example, we offer the UK’s only fully part-time mode that allows students to study as well as work.

Our strategic plan is to remain compact and contemporary, with capacity for up to 250 students across the sites, and to consolidate our niche position as the UK’s leading provider of fully part-time osteopathic programmes not only in the South East but also in the Midlands.

We are looking for applicants for the post of Trustee/Governor who are enthusiastic and committed and who will play an active part by bringing expertise that is relevant to a small not-for-profit institution.

To enhance our governor skill set we would value applications from present or former members of health professions, educationists or individuals with experience of good practice in governance and accountancy. A connection with osteopathy in some capacity is welcome, but not essential.

Currently meetings take place over Zoom. Governing Body meetings normally take place four times per year and normally members join one of the three of the Board’s subcommittees (Finance, Governance and Curriculum & Standards), which also meet four times per year.
