Osteopathic treatment consists of a wide-range of hands-on approaches, which are tailored to the individual patient’s needs. We treat a wide range of conditions from migraine prevention to sports injuries and back pain to poor posture.

Back pain treatment

Back pain is an extremely common condition, affecting one-third of the adult population each year.

Osteopathy is renowned in the treatment of back strain/pain using a wide range of methods including manipulation, mobilisation and soft tissue techniques which are recommended by the NHS National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence in the treatment of low back pain.

Our osteopathic treatment is suitable for all for all ages.

Neck pain

A common condition that can cause headaches, muscle spasms and pain in the shoulders or arms and if nerves are trapped then pins and needles, pain or numbness may be felt in the hands. Neck strain can be a result of poor posture, muscle strain, sports or work injury, and trauma such as whiplash. It can even be caused by an incorrect sleeping position.

We use a wide range of approaches for treating neck and shoulder pain including soft tissue techniques, manipulation, mobilisation and exercise therapy. Babies can also suffer neck strain as part of the birthing process, the college runs paediatric and cranial osteopathy clinics which specialise in the treatment of children.

Poor Posture

Good posture results from structural alignment of the body, support is provided by the bones and ligaments with minimal energy wastage. Posture changes throughout life from environmental factors, habits and trauma but good posture remains a foundation of good health.

Whatever stage your body is at, osteopathy can improve your posture and mobility. Work related postural problems can be helped and sporting performance can be improved through soft tissue techniques, manipulation, mobilisation and exercise therapy can help improve posture right into old age while correcting strains in children and teenagers can help prevent them from developing poor posture in later life.

Joint pain and Arthritis

Joint pain will affect almost all of us at some point in life. This can be due to trauma, sports injury, biomechanical dysfunction, disease or the wear and tear of osteoarthritis. It is only when joints are not functioning correctly and they begin to limit our lives, that we become aware of them.

Osteopathy treats the joints of the body from head to toe using manipulation, soft tissue techniques, joint articulation and exercises. Whether it is a knee strain, shoulder pain, tennis elbow, repetitive strain injury (RSI), or carpal tunnel syndrome, osteopathy can help. Significant improvement can be made to the range and quality of joint motion, even with arthritis. This can reduce the need for medication and may delay the onset of surgical intervention for advanced cases.

Cranial Clinic

Cranial osteopathy uses very gentle techniques to engage the natural rhythms of the body. This treatment is non-invasive and is a relaxing and calming experience that runs every Friday at our Borehamwood Teaching Clinic 9.00 – 17.00.
