Neck Pain

Neck pain is a common condition that can cause headaches, muscle spasms and pain in the shoulders or arms. If nerves are trapped then pins and needles, pain or numbness may be felt in the hands. Neck strain can be a result of poor posture, muscle strain, sports or work injury, and trauma such as whiplash. It can even be caused by an incorrect sleeping position. Babies can also suffer neck strain as part of the birthing process.

Whiplash is caused by a sudden, vigorous movement of the head which damages the ligaments and tendons in the neck. This form of neck strain can often take a long time to heal, causing pain, stiffness and a temporary loss of movement in the neck.

Osteopaths use a wide range of techniques for treating neck and shoulder pain including massage, manipulation, mobilisation and exercise therapy. This allows osteopaths to treat a wide range of ages, from babies and children to the very old. The College runs pediatric and cranial osteopathy clinics which specialise in the treatment of children.

All our osteopathy clinics are supervised by an experienced osteopath with senior students carrying out the treatment at reduced rates. Our Clinics operate in Central London, Borehamwood (Hertfordshire) and Stoke-on-Trent (Staffordshire). Make an appointment today for a low cost consultation.
